Introduction to Shipping Configuration in Turis
Setting up shipping in Turis consists of several steps, two of the most critical being defining Regions and configuring Rates. These steps are fundamental for determining how shipping costs are calculated for your buyers. Shipping rates can be set based on either the order amount or the weight of the products. This article covers the essentials of creating Regions, setting Amount-Based Rates, and configuring Weight-Based Shipping.
Setting Up Regions
Regions are the foundation of your shipping setup in Turis. In this section, you’ll define geographical areas by selecting countries, which will determine the shipping rates that apply to those locations.
To start, go to ⚙️ Settings > Shipping, and you'll find the Regions section.
- A region can consist of a single country or a group of countries, depending on your business needs.
- For businesses with different shipping prices for individual countries, each country should be set up as a separate region.
- If certain countries share the same shipping price, you can group them together into one region. For example, all EU countries might be grouped into a single region.
Including Postal Codes in Regions
In addition to selecting countries, you can also define shipping regions based on postal codes. This allows for more granular control over your shipping rates. You might have different rates for specific regions within the same country, such as major cities or rural areas.
- By default, all postal codes are added to a region when you select a country. However, if you need to customize the region further based on postal codes, you can click the pen icon next to "All zip codes" while adding countries to the region.
- After clicking the pen icon, you can edit the postal codes for that region, allowing you to include or exclude specific areas.
This feature enables you to create multiple regions within the same country, each with different shipping rates, based on postal code.
How to Set Up Regions
- Give the region a descriptive name.
- Click “Add countries” to open the pop-up.
- Either search by country name or scroll through the list and select the countries for your region.
- Tick the checkbox next to each country you want to add.
- If needed, you can remove a country by unticking the checkbox again.
- Click the pen icon next to "All zip codes" to customize the postal codes if necessary.
- Click Save, and the region will appear below.
- Click Save again to finalize the Region set-up - When finalized this should appear as below.
If you need to edit, add, or remove countries later, click the pen- or trashcan icon.
Setting Up Rates (Amount-Based)
Once your regions are defined, the next step is setting up Amount-Based Shipping Rates. Shipping rates in Turis can be based on the total order amount, excluding VAT.
How to Set Up Amount-Based Rates
- In the Shipping section, click Rates.
- Select the region where you want to apply the rates. If you have multiple regions, click the dropdown menu to select the desired region.
- Click Set rates next to the currency (e.g., EUR) you wish to set rates for.
- Define then the rates in the pop-up. If needed, you can add mores tiers to the rates by clicking the plus.
You can define different shipping prices based on the order amount.
Example
Order Amount (ex. VAT) | Shipping Price (ex. VAT) |
---|---|
0 - 300 EUR | 20 EUR |
301 - 400 EUR | 15 EUR |
401 - 500 EUR | 10 EUR |
501 EUR+ | 0 EUR (Free Shipping) |
This means that if the buyer’s order amount is between 0-300 EUR, the shipping cost will be 20 EUR. An order between 300-400 EUR will cost 15 EUR to ship, and so on.
For the buyer, the shipping price will appear in the checkout section based on the total order amount.
Defining Retailer-Specific Free Shipping Limits
If you want to offer free shipping for specific retailers, you can set a custom free shipping threshold.
How to Set Retailer-Specific Free Shipping:
- Go to 👤 Users > Retailers.
- Select the retailer you want to customize the free shipping limit for.
- In the “Free Shipping Limit” field, enter the amount that will trigger free shipping.
For example, if you set the free shipping limit at 400 EUR for a retailer, that retailer will receive free shipping on orders above 400 EUR.
Adding or Changing Shipping Price After an Order is Placed
You can also modify the shipping price after an order has been placed.
- Go to Orders in the menu.
- Find and select the order you want to modify.
- Click “Add shipping cost” and enter the shipping price.
- Click Save to update the order.
The customer will be notified of the change via email.
Setting Up Weight-Based Shipping
In Turis, shipping costs can also be determined by the total weight of the order. To use weight-based rates, you must first ensure that each product has its weight entered in the product settings.
Adding Weight to Products
- Go to the product page in your product catalog.
- In the Unit weight field, enter the weight of the product (preferably in grams, as weight-based shipping is calculated using grams).
Without entering the product weight, Turis won’t be able to calculate the shipping cost based on weight.
Creating Weight-Based Shipping Rates
Once the product weights are set and regions are created, you can configure the weight-based shipping rates.
- Go to Settings > Shipping > Rates.
- Select the region where you want to apply weight-based shipping.
- Click on Weight to set up the rates.
- Choose your currency (e.g., EUR), and then click Set rates next to the currency.
You can define shipping costs based on the total weight of the order.
Example
Max Total Order Weight (g) | Shipping Price (ex. VAT) |
---|---|
0 - 3000 g | 20 EUR |
3001 - 4000 g | 30 EUR |
4001 - 5000 g | 40 EUR |
5001 g+ | 50 EUR |
With this setup, an order with a weight between 0-3000g will incur a shipping fee of 20 EUR, while an order weighing between 3001g and 4000g will cost 30 EUR to ship, and so on.
Note: You cannot apply both amount-based and weight-based rates within the same region. However, you can use either of these rate types across different regions.
In the checkout, buyers will see the shipping price based on the weight of the items in their order.
Conclusion
Setting up Regions, Amount-Based Rates, and Weight-Based Shipping in Turis is a straightforward process that allows you to tailor your shipping setup to suit your business needs. By defining regions, you control where your shipping rates apply, while setting rates based on order amounts or weights ensures your pricing structure is flexible and clear for your customers.
