What are Variants?
If you are selling products in different variants, this is the section you need to know. This is where you manage your Variants, and choose how they are displayed in your webshop.
First things first, what is a Variant in Turis - see below.
Variants are β as the name suggests β variants of a product. So this means several products that are predominantly the same, except for one or several small variations. A Variant can for example be size, color, measure and weight.
How do I create Variants?
Creating a Variant is NOT done in the Variant section, but instead in the Products section. To get started, go to π¦ Products in the left-hand side menu and click on "+ / plus" in the upper right corner. The window below will appear.
Step-by-step guide:
Variants: give the Variant a name, e.g. "T-Shirt" or "Pants". The Variant field connects all products belonging to the same variant.
Variant Title (Color, Flavor, Style): specify color, material, style, e.g. "Green"
Size/Volume: define size or volume, e.g. "Small", "Medium" or "Large"
Example 1 - T-Shirt
In the following example, we have a T-Shirt that is Green and it comes in three different sizes; Small, Medium and Large.
The first thing we need to do, is to create the T-Shirt three times, as we are going to create three different sizes.
Now that we have created three Green T-Shirts, we can assign each of them to a size. We will start with the size Small (SKU #3000053).
1. Firstly, we need to create it as a Variant. To do this, we click on the product and scroll down to "Variants" and click on "Select options".
Now we want to create and name the Variant, we will call it T-Shirt.
2. Secondly, we need to give it a Variant Title. We do this by clicking on the "Select options".
Here we name it after its color, which is Green.
3. Thirdly, we now want to add the size of the T-Shirt. We do this by clicking on "Select options".
Here we name the size as Small.
We have now created a Variant that is called T-shirt, the color is Green and the size of it is Small.
Now that we have created the Variant (T-Shirt > Green > Small) we want to follow the same procedure, to create the size Medium and Large.
Medium (SKU #3000051)
Large (SKU #3000052)
We now have a Variant that is called T-shirt, the color is Green and it contains three sizes; Small, Medium and Large.
Example 2 - 3 different chairs
In the example below, we have already created three products β three different type of chairs.
Letβs say that instead of showing these three products separately, we instead want to "bundle" or "group" them together and thereby show them as one product in three Variants.
To do this, we click one of the products β in this case, the Wooden Chair (SKU #100021) β and create a new Variant in the field βVariantsβ which we call Chairs.
Next, we want to specify what distinguishes this particular Variant (chair) from the other chairs, we are "bundling" or "grouping" together. We do this be adding a Variant Title. In this given example, the most obvious distinction is the fact, that the chair is made of Wood.
Since we are only distinguishing in one type of variant β the material β we are gonna put in βWoodβ in the Size volume as well.
So now that we have told Turis that this Wood Chair Product is part of a Chair Variant, the variant has been created, and we can add other products to the same variant. Therefore, for the remaining two Chairs β the fabric and plastic chair β we follow the same procedure.
Fabric chair (SKU #100023)
Plastic chair (SKU #100022)
We now have a Variant that is called Chair and it has three different styles; Wooden, Fabric and Plastic.
Displaying Variants
In Turis, it is possible to display Variants in various ways and these are:
Thumbnail Images
Color Swatches
Dropdown
The best way of displaying a Product Variant depends on what type of product you are selling, how many variants you have and of course how you like to display your products.
Now, to access Variants go to Products in the left-hand side menu and click on Variants. You will then get an overview that looks like this.
Next, click on the "Settings" button that is on the right side of Chairs and the window below opens.
In the window that now appears, you can set the Default Variant and what to Display Variants As.
Thumbnail Images
If you choose to display your Product Variant as Thumbnail Images, you need to set an image for each Product Variant. You do that by clicking on the "+ / plus" next to each variant and choose an image from the Media Library or you can upload a new product image.
When you have added the images you complete by hitting "Save". Now your Product Variant will be displayed like this to your Buyers.
Color Swatches
If you choose to display your Product Variant as Color Swatches, you first need to set a color for each product variant. You do that by clicking the color box next to each variant and choose the color you like.
When you have selected the colors to all Variants, you complete by hitting "Save". Now your Product Variant will be displayed like this to your Buyers.
Dropdown
If you choose to display your Product Variant as a Dropdown, you simply just select Dropdown and complete by hitting "Save".
Your Product Variant will now be displayed like this to your Buyers.
Other display options
In continuation of the three display options presented above, the next section will elaborate how you display Variants in Line-view.
Line-View
To display a product in Line-view you simply select Line-view and complete by hitting the "Save" button afterwards.
The Product Variant will now look like this in your webshop.
Re-arrange Variant hierarachy
You can rearrange and customize the hierarchy of a Product Variant. To do so, you click on the arrow next to the Variant name.
Then the Product Variant unfold.
Now you can drag and drop the Variant to rearrange the order or hierarchy of it. You simply click on the " β‘ " or the e.g. "Small" and then drag and drop it again, in the order you prefer.
Deleting and ungrouping Variants
If you do not want to display your Product Variants as Variants, but rather as individual products, you can either ungroup or delete your Variants. Both of these are done in the variant settings.
You do this by going to Variants and select the Variant you want to ungroup or delete.
Ungroup Variant: tick off the field "show products individually (ungroup variant)" and the variant will ungrouped
Delete Variant: click "delete variant" and the variant will be deleted
